When the concept of having 2.5” drives started, in countries like India a lot of buyers used to buy a casing and an internal 2.5” drive. Back then, a lot of people used to ask the question “Are company labelled 2.5” external drives worth it?”
Things evolved since then: form-factor, warranty, branding presence for external drives, etc. Then the size of the drives slowly shaped ever since manufacturers started to use USB 2.0 port soldered directly on the PCB rather than using an SATA-to-USB sister board. Now? We have USB 3.0!
Then the manufacturers came up with media backup, though a large part of the userbase don’t really use as much. But who knows- that might change, and maybe such storage manufacturers can include a full backup software like how we see SSD manufacturers like Kingston, ADATA, etc. bundle Acronis True Image HD key along with the drive. A complete backup solution with an external drive is as useful as SSD manufacturers doing what they doing for a long time.
So now we have the My Passport SLIM 1TB drive. We’ll see how she performs!
