WD Black² Dual Drive WD1001X06X Review

Until now, we had hybrid drives which uses a small flash NAND for Read Only cache paired with a mechanical drive. While it doesn’t give complete benefits for a pure breed SSD, it does help in boot and application load times.

And it worked.

There are those who want a dedicated storage with flash NAND but with capacity of about 1TB drive- that’s where drives like Samsung EVO 1TB comes in. But at the price of US $459.99/ UK £363.81, its an out-of-reach for many. This issue of having an ‘all-in-one’ storage solution would mostly affect notebook users, unless desktop users want a very large flash storage for its primary device. WD released its dual drive with 120GB SSD and a 1TB mechanical drive. Is it really a middle ground?
